About the Characters

Andi

Thirteen year old Andi is tiny but all she has ever wanted to do is play basketball. Trouble is, she lives in London where basketball is no big thing. And to make things worse, she has just moved to a school where only boys are allowed to join the team.

Now she's got to share her room with a long lost big brother arriving from the Philippines. What else could possibly go wrong?

Bernardo

Sixteen-year-old Bernardo lives in the Philippines, separated from his family in England by immigration paperwork. When he shoots up to eight foot tall, his village believes he is inhabited by the spirit of Bernardo Carpio, a legendary giant who is said to stop earthquakes. So when Bernardo's immigration papers finally come through, the villagers will stop at nothing to prevent Bernardo from leaving.

Gabriela

Gabriela is the daughter of the village witch. She bullies her classmates in the same way that her mother uses the threat of black magic to terrorize Bernardo's village with unreasonable demands.

Jabby

Jabby is Bernardo's basketball-mad best friend. His real name is Henry but he tells everyone to call him Jabby - short for Kareem Abdul Jabbar, his hero from the Basketball Hall of Fame.
