Useful Stuff for Parents, Teachers, Librarians, and Booksellers
One of my writing heroes, the author Richard Peck, once said:
"If a child can’t find himself on a page early in life, he will go looking for himself in all the wrong places."
it's become a line that I quote shamelessly when I'm giving talks because it's so true. (Read my keynote speech to the Phlippine Board on Books for Young People)
I think the difference between an author for children and an author for adults can be found in that quote.
We who write for children may be engaged in an art and a craft, but most of all we are in the business of pointing kids in the right direction. It's a role we share with parents, teachers, librarians and booksellers for children, and what a privilege it is.
I figure we (you parents, teachers, librarians, booksellers and I) could help each other. So here's some stuff I made for you!
